Set in Kilmartin Glen, Burndale a
nineteenth century manse offers
the ultimate in Kilmartin
hospitality, together with the
satisfying full Scottish breakfast
the friendly informal hosts
make the feel, more like home
from home than a B&B. Special
attention to making your stay as
pleasurable as possible is clearly
evident everywhere.
You will find Burndale set a little off the main A816 only a few hundred metres outside Kilmartin
Village. Built alongside a Free Church (no longer standing) in March of 1867 the Victorian
manse with its sand stone walls and high ceilings offers an insight into a past age. Peter and
William were sons of the Minister MacPhail, who was the first minister at the church. The stone
lintel over the lounge fireplace has “Peter M” and “W” scraped into it. This stone was originally
the lintel over the piggery door which adjoined the north end of the stable. “W M P” carved on
a south end stable stone is the same William MacPhail.
The house is set in the natural beauty of Kilmartin Glen which just beckons to be explored and
for those who do the rewards such as ancient standing stones, burial cairns, the Kilmartin
Museum and Kilmartin Church are well worth it. Our location is also ideal for those who want
to travel to the many wonderful sites a little further away like Arduaine Garden (8 Miles), Crarae
Gardens (9 Miles), Auchindrain Museum (11 Miles), Easdale Island Folk Museum (13 Miles),
Benmore Botanic Garden (20 Miles), Duart Castle (22 Miles), Bonawe Iron Furnace (23 Miles),
